I am thankful for the invitation from Career Press to review Scott Miller’s and David Morey’s new book The Leadership Campaign.

At last there is a book that bridges the separation between political campaigns and business. The Leadership Campaign by Scott Miller and David Morey is a must read for all of us who are managing our own careers or at the helm of a company or business, in short, all of us.???

Did you ever wonder how Steve Jobs and others developed their overwhelming successful break through business strategies? Find out in detail by reading a first hand account from Scott Miller and David Morey who advised and guided Apple back to the technology leadership role which it has enjoyed ever since. Steve Jobs, realized early on the synergies between political campaigns and business campaigns. Not only technology but also all business is rapidly embracing the skills politicians employ to gain and retain elected office. Moreover in our personal careers the process of moving up the career ladder is more and more like a political campaign where the one with 50.1% of the votes moves up, and the losers move out.   Developing the right skills to navigate the new business landscape now includes being politically savvy. Do you notice as the current political campaign moves forward more and more of the catch phrases and gestures of the presumptive winners are finding their way into meetings? I remember vividly as the two great communicators Presidents, Ronald Regan and Bill Clinton set the stage for a host of new and effective tools to use to gain majority support in meetings and press releases. Since then I have been alert to see how political strategy and tactics were being employed in business. The Leadership Campaign codifies those strategies and tactics and makes them available for all of us to incorporate in our skill set.

Scott Miller and David Morey are the real deal. In 1979 Scott Miller founded Sawyer/Miller Group with David Morey to advise political candidates on winning elections and managing their careers. (Staying in office) In 1979 Steve Jobs persuaded Sawyer/Miller Group to help with his transition of Apple. The rest is history with a very impressive of political (domestic and international) and business (personal and company) campaigns to obtain and retain leadership.

The 10 step process that applies equally to politics and business will enable any qualified candidate to obtain their career goals.

For the first time in a long time, there is a book with fresh ideas and concepts that will instantly set you apart from the competition. Just a hint it is good to be the insurgent in any campaign.

Best of luck.
